Fielding a side almost identical to the one which triumphed in Springfield last week, Boston's Men breezed through their group on Saturday morning in Saratoga Springs, NY. Boston brushed aside first Saratoga's B side and then Boston Wasps, without conceding a single point. After a close semi-final in Springfield, The Boston Irish Wolfhounds were a no-show for the final group match of Boston's Saratoga campaign, allowing us to progress to a semi final against last week's finalists, Mystic River.
After winning narrowly in a hard fought final against the Mystic men at Springfield one week before, Boston took the field expecting a similarly difficult semi-final. Surprisingly, Boston dominated possession and territory and won the game convincingly 49-0 with seven converted tries. Saratoga A won the other Semi-Final to leave Boston facing the home team in the Cup-Final.
After a prolonged National Series qualifier between NYAC and Mystic River, Boston and Saratoga finally took the field. Boston fell behind in the first few minutes as a ball stripped free in the tackle bounced favorably for Saratoga's playmaker, who ran in under the posts unopposed. These would be the first and last points conceded by Boston all day. A break from Boston's try line set up an overlap just inside the Saratoga half and Mike Cedrone ran in under the posts to level the scores before half time. The second half was equally tight, separated by another show-and-go try from Cedrone in the midfield to run in under the posts again, securing the title and the NERFU series for Boston.
On the Friday night, Boston's Old Boys, The Brahmins combined with The Wolfhound old boys to defeat the Saratoga Springs Old Boys in a game of three thirds.
Boston's U19 also did well on Saturday, losing narrowly by one try in their Semi-Final to Mystic River U19s.
